ASCP MLS Route 6: Eligibility Requirement + Common Documentation

The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) specific series of MLS ASCP routes for medical lab scientists from MLS ASCP Route 1 – ASCP MLS Route 6.

Some eligibility prerequisites that are common in all routes (ASCP MLS Route 6, etc, and others) are

 Academic educational degrees (baccalaureate or master’s degree), training programs that must be obtained from approved institutions, & relevant field clinical experience from accredited labs.

Through these eligibility paths, the board chooses the right candidates for lab experiments.

6 routes are fixed for United States candidates and 5 routes for international candidates by the Board of Certification.

It is not necessary to meet all route requirements, satisfying only one route requirement is enough.

The following is a detailed description of ASCP MLS Route 6 criteria:

• Medical laboratory training course: must be of 50 weeks long and  sponsored by the U.S. military (must be obtained within last 10 years)
• A bachelor’s degree with a combination of 16 semester hours in chemistry & bio with 1 semester hrs in microbiology, must be obtained from an accredited institution.
• Clinical experience in microbiology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis & body fluids, and immunology from an acceptable lab: This experience must be one year

The lab that you chose to get the lab experience must be approved by JCI accreditation, DoD CLIP certificate of registration, compliance, accreditation, accreditation under ISO 15189, or CMS CLIP certificate of registration, compliance, accreditation.

Common Documentation for ASCP MLS Route 6

With the verification of ASCP MLS route 6, you have to meet some common requirements that are given below:

• For education within the U.S. or Canada; you require an official transcript.
• For education outside of the U.S. or Canada; (acceptable) official transcript evaluation.
• Letter of authenticity with experience documentation form
• Letter of authenticity with training documentation form
• Military training official certificate or notarized
