ASCP MLS Route 1 Eligibility Requirements for MLS ASCP Certification Exam

The ASCP Board of Certification is very strict in choosing the eligible candidates for the ASCP medical lab scientist certificate.

The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) determines the six eligibility routes for U.S. candidates and five eligibility routes for international candidates.

ASCP MLS Route 1 Eligibility Prerequisites

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) only allows candidates who meet its recommended eligibility requirements.

Therefore, the board determines some eligibility routes to examine the applicants' previous interest in the field.

Here are the Route 1 requirements for U.S MLS ASCP candidates

ASCP MLS Route 1: For U.S. Candidates

• Baccalaureate degree in relevant subject from approved institution.
• NAACLS approved medical lab scientist program

With the requirement of ASCP MLS Route 1, you have to fulfill the following requirements:

• An official transcript that verifies the academic educational requirements in the United States (U.S.) or Canada.
• Letter of authenticity with the experience documentation form
• Training documentation form with the latter of authenticity
• For education outside of the U.S. and Canada, a foreign transcript evaluation.
• Notarized or military training certificate  (official)

ASCP MLS Route 1: International Applicants Eligibility Requirements

• Bachelor degree in biological science, chemistry, medical lab science from approved institution.
• Blood banking, hematology, chemistry, and microbiology medical laboratory science training program, and
• A degree or diploma in medical lab science includes Biomedical Laboratory Science, clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science, and medical technology.

You must keep in mind following instruction before getting admission in any educational institution and lab.

• Educational institutions must be approved by the Ministry or governing regulatory association.
• If your country is not have accreditation prevalent system, you must get a baccalaureate degree from institutions that are approved by the International Advisory Board appointed by the ASCP BOC.
• Acceptable transcript evaluation can be used to determine eligibility.
• A foreign degree must be equal to a U.S. degree.

Being an ASCP international candidate, you have to fulfill common requirements with ASCP MLS Route 1.

• Training  and Experience documentation form with Letter of Authenticity
