United States Candidates Qualifications for ASCP MLS
The board distributed the 6 different sections of qualification; each has its own prerequisites; going at least with one is vital to apply.
1st Route
To meet first route requirements, you must have
- A baccalaureate degree
- NAACLS-authorized medical laboratory scientist (MLS) program.
2nd Route
For it, make sure to earn an
- MLT (ASCP) license,
- 2 years of clinical experience (immunology, biology, blood banking, laboratory operation, chemistry, urine/other body fluids, and hematology)
- A baccalaureate degree must be obtained with 16 semester hrs in biology and chemistry (one semester of microbiology & organic/biochemistry must be included).
3rd Route
- CLA ASCP was it conditional criterion, but the board has denied it.
4th Route
You are fit for this path if you have
- Clinical experience of 5 years in blood banking, microbiology, chemistry, blood bank, and other related areas
- a baccalaureate degree with a couple of 16 semester hours (including 1 semester hrs in microbiology) in chemistry and biology
5th Route
This path credentials limitation includes
- MLS ASCPi
- Five years of clinical experience in all recommended fields, including microbiology, blood bank, hematology, etc.
- Transcript evaluation.
6th Route
To achieve this route documentation, you must have a
- U.S. military medical lab training program (50 weeks)
- clinical experience of 1 year in advised areas, including urine/other body fluids, blood bank, chemistry, etc.,
- A bachelor’s degree with a mixture of 16 sessions (semester) hrs in biology and chemistry (one session of microbiology must be part of these 16 semesters).
International Candidates Qualifications for ASCP MLS?
1st Route
To be suitable for route one, you must get
- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry/medical lab science/biological science
- A training program of MLS (medical lab science) in hematology, immunohematology (blood bank), etc.
2nd Route
Move ahead to apply if you have
- A baccalaureate degree in MLS (medical laboratory science)
- A clinical background of 4 years in the required areas (blood banking, hematology, etc.).
3rd Route
- MLS program in micro, hematology, blood bank (immunohematology), & chemistry.
- first degree (four year program)
4th Route
The ASCP Board set the following Qualifications for ASCP MLS to meet this route requirements
- a bachelor’s degree in biological science/chemistry
- Clinical knowledge (5 years) in hematology, chemistry, immunohematology, and microbiology.
5th Route
To satisfy it, you must have
- A chemistry/biological science two-year diploma,
- A first degree,
- Clinical understanding of 5 years in micro, chemistry, hematology, and immunohematology.
