Routes for International Gynecologic Cytologist CTgyn (ASCPi)

If you're applying from outside the US, you must verify that you meet all the eligibility requirements, including pre-certifications, education, and experience. You must meet at least one of the following criteria,

• Route 1: Completed a two-year diploma or equivalent from an accredited educational facility, and a Cytotechnology program (the program must incorporate theory and practice in gynecologic cytology) from an approved body.

• Route 2: Must be presently fully employed and working in the field of cytology and one year of clinical experience in gynecologic cytology in a reputable laboratory within the last three years.

• Route 3: Must be a holder of CT(IAC) certification.

CT ASCP Exam for Technologist in Cytologist

The CTgyn ASCPi exam administered by the BOC comprises 50 examination questions, which you'll be expected to attempt within 90 minutes. All questions are multiple-choice and are administered via the computer-adaptive test (CAT) system. The CAT system means the exam's difficulty level is adjusted to match your performance with each question. With each correct answer comes an increment in the questions' difficulty level.

After payment, upload all the appropriate documentation, including academic transcripts, certificates, Experience, and Training documentation form with a Letter of Authenticity. All these are subject to audit to verify authenticity, which could take more than two weeks.

Once the ASCP BOC has successfully reviewed your documentation, and you get ‘Deficient' on your dash, that means you must have missed an eligibility criterion. However, it can be and must be resolved. ‘Ineligible' means you're totally out of the zone and must re-apply to be reconsidered. On the other hand, if you get an ‘Eligible,' you can proceed and schedule your exam appointment within the given time frame.

You must do any scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling of the CTgyn ASCPi exam 24 hours (full business day) ahead. After taking the exam, you'll be given a preliminary examination result (a pass/fail) on your computer screen. However, the official exam score report will be sent to your email within four business days.
