To become MLT ASCP certified, you need to complete your diploma degree and associate degree program within two or more years.

  • Route 3: Academic credit 60 semester hours from an approved institution with a combination of 12 semester hours in chemistry & biology. Or associate degree from an approved institution with a combination of 12 semester hours in chemistry & biology. Within the last ten years, 50 weeks of successful completion in the U.S. military histotechnician training course

HT (ASCPi) Eligibility Requirements (Routes)

BOC recommends two routes for international candidates. That is

  • Route 1: High school equivalent or completion and Successful completion of an accredited  Histotechnician clinical training program including a histotechnology internship.  This histotechnician internship and Histotechnician clinical training program must be achieved after high school.
  • Route 2:Two-year diploma from an approved/accredited institution and One year of histopathology laboratory clinical experience. OR, one year of acceptable research experience in a veterinary, industry, or histopathology laboratory

Laboratory Experience (must for both ASCP & ASCPi)

Within the last five years, you must have experience in Fixation, Embedding/Microtomy, Processing, Staining, and Laboratory Operations to fulfill the Histotechnician examination experience requirement.

What is The HT (ASCP) Recertification Requirement?

Whether you are an ASCP or ASCPi certified, this certification is valid for three years, after this period, your certification will expire.  To maintain a valid ASCP certification, you must participate in the CMP(Credential Maintenance Program).
