ASCP MLT Recertification: How to Stay Credentialed?
Dedicating to perfection and demonstrating professional competency in your related field, you have to struggle to learn a wide variety of experiences.
ASCP MLT recertification is the best path in this regard.
See what experts say about the ASCP MLT CMP (Credential Maintenance Program).
According to Walter Oliveira, MASCP, MLS(ASCP)CM SI
“As laboratory professionals, we must endeavor to be lifelong learners in order to maintain and expand our knowledge to stay current in our profession. The Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) challenges me to maintain and expand my knowledge across disciplines within the laboratory medicine field.”
What is MLT ASCP recertification, and how can you participate in it? We will tell you all about it in this article.
ASCP MLT Recertification: Time for Participation
You become eligible for the ASCP MLT recertification program after three years of getting the certificate.
To maintain and active your ASCP certification, the ASCP CMP is a necessary step that you cannot skip.
Because you cannot continue your job with an expired certificate.
For participation, you have to earn some CE (continuing education) points (36 for MLT ASCP) in your active years.
For instance, if you got your certificate in August 2021, you have to meet your ASCP MLT renewal requirements between August 2021 and August 2024.
This program is the best opportunity to update your old skills with the latest ones.
To participate in ASCP MLT recertification, you have to send a CMP declaration.
How to Meet ASCP MLT Recertification Requirements?
There are two ways to get CMP points for your ASCP recertification program. These are
ASCP-Resources | Non-ASCP Resources |
Participating in ASCP continuing education programs | You get the CMP point from the following CE credit providers: AGT (Association of Genetic Technologists) ASH (American Society of Hematology) CAP (College of American Pathologists) ASCT (American Society for Cytotechnology NSH (National Society for Histotechnology) |
Getting ASCP membership
Serving the ASCP committee
Authoring in the ASCP journals
Attending the ASCP live events like the annual meeting
Serving the product committee |
The CMP credits that you will receive by ASCP automatically enter into your ASCP transcript. You do not need to make any effort to add them.
But for non-ASCP CE credits, you have to enter them manually.
CMP Declaration: When Do You Need to Send It?
Do you know the right time to submit your CMP declaration?
After meeting the ASCP MLT continuing education requirements, you will be able to send your online CMP declaration.
Make sure to submit it at least one month before the expiration date of your certificate.
You are responsible for paying the CMP application fee ($100) with the CMP declaration.
If you cannot submit it on time and your certificate has expired, then you have to pay $135 (CMP application fee + CMP reinstatement fee).
Process to Know Your Credential Status
How much time you have to take part in your ASCP MLT renewal process, you can check it from the following way:
- Open ASCP account after login
- Explore “Check Progress” section under “My Education”
