MLS ASCP CM: How?
Your MLS ASCP certificate is only actionable within three years of getting it.
After this, you have to update your license to move ahead as an ASCP MLS-certified professional.
To revive your credential, you must participate in the CMP (Credential Maintenance Program), which updates your certificate for the upcoming three years and converts it from MLS ASCP to MLS ASCP CM.
Eligibility Requirements for MLS ASCP CM
To take part in the ASCP renewal process, you have to meet some points before your certification expiration date.
For MLS (ASCP), you have to achieve 36 points in different areas.
The following is the distribution for these 36 points:
- Two points in each subject: blooding bank, chemistry, microbiology, & hematology.
- One point in lab or patient safety
- Medical ethics: one point
- Areas of laboratory specialization: 26 points
You can get these points from the ASCP to participate in its continuous education programs.
Besides this, the ASCP BOC allows you to get CMP points from other sources, like CAP (College of American Pathologists), AABB, ASM (Americal Society for Microbiology), etc.
Application Fee for Applying for the MLS ASCP CM (CMP)
The CMP application fee is $100 which you have to pay to update your MLS ASCP credential with the new tag MLS ASCP CM.
But if you fail to renew your credential before its expiration date and it expires, you have to pay $135 as a reinstatement fee (application fee and charge for the expiration certificate).
