ASCP MLS International: Basic Information
The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) conducts its ASCP medical lab scientist exam for U.S. and international candidates.
The exam format and exam content area are the same for ASCP MLS international candidates, like U.S. applicants.

MLS ASCP International Eligibility Requirements

The ASCP BOC suggests five routes for foreign candidates; satisfying one route prerequisite is vital.
- Route One: You must have a baccalaureate degree in one of these subjects; biological science, chemistry, or medical lab science, and a medical laboratory science training program is also necessary, which must be in chemistry, blood banking, hematology, and microbiology.
- Route Two: To meet Route II requirements, you must achieve a bachelor’s degree in Medical Lab Science and clinical experience (three years) in chemistry, blood banking, hematology, and microbiology.
- Route Three: Medical Lab Science training program (in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology) and bachelor’s degree.
- Route Four: 5 years of clinical experience in microbiology, hematology, blood banking, and chemistry and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biological science.
- Route Five: 2 years diploma from an approved institution in chemistry or biological science, clinical experience (5 years) in microbiology, hematology, chemistry, and blood banking, and a baccalaureate degree.
With one route requirement, you must have the following documentation to meet all eligibility requirements:
- Graduation credential
- Academic transcript
- Approved transcript evaluation (foreign)
- You must have a Letter of Authenticity with experience and a training documentation form.
