• Get a laboratory science program that is approved by ABHES, CAAHEP, or NAACLS.
• A medical laboratory training course of 50 weeks presented by the U.S. military.
• Phlebotomy training program or clinical assistant program of  NAACLS approved
• Phlebotomy program authorized by the California Department of Public Health.
• A structured training program that meets the eligibility requirements of the Board of Certification (BOC) structured training program (Laboratory Assistant Route 6 and Phlebotomy Route 2)

Laboratory Assistant Route 6 requirements are

• Equivalent or high school graduation degree
• MLA (Medical Laboratory Assistant) two-part formal structured program:   clinical laboratory training and classroom training.
• Laboratory assistant clinical experience of six months

 Phlebotomy Route 2 Criteria

• High school graduation or relevant
• Phlebotomy program that must be earned with two formal structures that are
• Clinical training and orientation of 100 clock hours from the approved lab with a performance of 100 successful unaided venipunctures.
• classroom training (40 clock hours), including  laboratory operations, specimen handling and processing,  specimen collection, circulatory system physiology and anatomy

Two ASCP members Kathleen Becan McBride, EdD, MASCP, MLS(ASCP)CM, & Diana “Didi” Garza, EdD, MLS(ASCP)CM, have developed this scholarship with the help of the ASCP Foundation to help provide the phlebotomist.

The student with an ASCP laboratory science membership can only apply for this.

Dr. Alvin Ring Empowerment Scholarship for Laboratory Professionals

This scholarship is also for those professionals who want to pursue higher education in the lab science field.

$1,000-$5,000 is the total range of this scholarship; depending on the applicant’s education needs (qualification and degree program).

Only candidates with good academic standing can apply for this and the deadline for applying is May 31, 2024.

ASCP Resident Forensic Rotation Awards

The ASCP Resident Forensic Rotation Awards is a pathology education funding that goes to the pathology subspecialty area (Forensic Pathology).

This is a one-month fellowship that awards $6,000 per award.
