ASCP BOC MLS Exam Eligibility Routes

ASCP BOC offers many eligibility routes for U.S. and international candidates. To fulfill at least one route requirement is crucial to apply for the MLS (ASCP) exam.

U.S. Candidates Eligibility Route

  • Route 1: Baccalaureate degree and NAACLS MLS program
  • Route 2:  MLT(ASCP) credential, baccalaureate degree, and relevant subject clinical experience of two years.
  • Route 3: Requirements have been banned since January 1, 2023.
  • Route 4: Bachelor's degree in biology or chemistry and five years of clinical experience in required subjects.

  • Route 1: MLS program and baccalaureate degree

ASCP BOC MLS Exam General Information

The ASCP medical lab scientist exam is formulated based on CAT (computer adaptive testing). With CAT, when your answer of a question is correct, the upcoming questions will be a little tougher than the prior ones. But if you answer incorrectly, the next question will be easier than the previous ones.

The exam contains 100 questions (all MCQs) that are selected from seven subjects: chemistry, immunology, hematology, blood bank, body fluids and urinalysis, and microbiology. 0-900 is the total score range for the ASCP BOC MLS exam, and 400 is the maximum score necessary to earn the credential. You will get your pass or fail result on your computer screen after finishing the exam. Your score report will be received after four business days.

ASCP BOC MLS CMP

Your MLS ASCP certificate is only valid for three years. After this period, you cannot use this certificate without renewal. The ASCP BOC established a CMP (Credential Maintenance Program) to update your credential.
